- Putting Your Thoughts on Paper: Dragon Swan Lord is a story about a swan that helps to hatch a dragon’s egg. Aria will become the little dragon’s guardian, teacher, and protector once the dragonet hatches.
- Gathering materials: family learning journals, pencils, colored pencils, crayon
- Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
- Reading and Writing Connection: “Today you will draft a story about Aria and her dragonet. Include a beginning, the middle, and the ending to their story.” *Encourage them to recreate the swan (Aria) and her hatched dragonet. They might choose to draft the story as a poem instead. Have fun… be creative.
- Drafting responses: Allow each family member to write their thoughts (10 min). Encourage the youngest members to draw their thoughts and assign someone to be their scribe.
- Finally: Discuss: Let each family member share their “Dragon Swan Lord“ creation. Remind them that respectful listeners make eye contact with the person sharing without interrupting.
