- Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
- Reading and Writing Connection: It’s Summertime…
- Drafting responses: Getting your thoughts on paper: “What does the word Summertime look like?” *Guide your learners to draft 5-10 bulleted adjectives (words that describe).
- Next: “What would be a “Summertime” shape that you could use for your poem today?” *Invite them to sketch 1-3 “Summertime” shapes (5 min).
- Then: *Guide them to choose the poems shape and (lightly sketch) an outline of the shape.
- Finally: *Guide them to begin writing their 5-10 bulleted adjectives along the shape’s outline.
- Allow each family member to write their thoughts (10 min). Encourage the youngest members to draw their thoughts and assign someone to be their scribe.
- Finally: Discuss: Let each family member share their “Summertime“ creation. Remind them that respectful listeners make eye contact with the person sharing without interrupting.
