- B4 Bed Thoughts: *Let everyone see the image. Discuss: “What do you notice?”
- Next: Ask: “What do you not know?”
- Next: Discuss which patterns are visible in the slide above. Ask them to play “I Spy…”:
- “How many shapes?; How many of each color?; What is the perimeter?; What fractions can you see?” I spy: shapes = 16 triangles; 5 trapezoids; 1 diamond. I spy the value 10 for the big shape when the red shape value 2. I spy the fraction values as: red=value=2; blue=value=2/3; green=value=1/3.
- Materials: pass out paper and pencils or have them use the back of their learning journals for math thoughts). *Remind them to use a new page, add today’s date, and a title for the learning image. *Encourage the younger family members to draw what they think the answer might be.
- Show us…put your reasoning to the test: “What if the red shape value is worth 1?” I spy: the value 5 for the big shape when the red shape value 1.
- Finally: Ask each member to share what they believe the solution might be. Review what an active listener looks like.
