Reading Investigations: Seasonal Foods

What do you notice?
  • Today’s reading investigation: Seasonal Foods Spelling Check
  • Family Sharing: “Which seasonal foods do you know? ” *Invite everyone to share.
  • Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons
  • Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
  • Guided enquiry: Share: Even going shopping means you are drafting and reading what is on your list, as well as what is on any labels. “For today’s spelling, each of you will choose 3 food items from each of the four seasonal lists.” *Guide their spelling for each of the categories (younger learners can choose 1 item from each seasonal category).
  • Next: Allow everyone 10-15 minutes to draft their word collections on paper.
  • Discussion Wrap-Up: Discuss where they would locate the items in a grocery store.
