- Next Inquiry: “What don’t you know?”
- Investigation: Materials: paper/pencils/colored pencils/crayons or family learning journals (back of journal). Remind them to turn to the next available page and date it. Ask them to write the name for today’s kitchen math “Thanksgiving Meal Planning.“
- Inquire: “How would you choose which items to purchase for our Thanksgiving meal?” “What if you had a budget of $75.00?” “What if there was only $55.00?” *Let them have 5-6 minutes to draft their thoughts (without talking). When they are finished, have them share how they came to their conclusions.
- Kitchen Lab: Discuss: “What Thanksgiving meal planning could we make for our family’s Thanksgiving dinner for this Thursday?”; “Will our investigation prove or disprove if our reasoning is accurate?“
- Meal planning extension: Using the calorie counter on the slide above, discuss the steps in determining how many calories would be eaten for one family member if they were to eat the meal that was planned.
