Literary Foundations: Thanksgiving Day Fun!

Just for today… family fun!
  • Making the family connection: Discuss the 3 gaming examples: Which game should we play?
  • Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons, 1 or 2 dice, and M&M’s or Skittles.
  • Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
  • Today’s literary connection: (left to right) Emoji Pictionary: Guess the fall word. Baby Turkey’s Feathers (2 dice): 2-3= red; 4-5=yellow; 6-7= blue; 8-9= green; 10-11= orange; 12= any color. Roll a Turkey Part (1 dice): Everyone gets the chance to create their own turkey! Roll the dice and copy or create their unique little “Gobbler.”
Creative Family Designs
  • Next: Invite each family member to fill in the Rebus Thanksgiving Story. To save time, ask someone to read and have everyone else fill out the 14 blanks. *Have them number the page 1-14, then read the Rebus and they draft their own thoughts.
  • Finally: Ask each family member to choose either of the last two options. Thanksgiving Day Wordle: Using colored pencils, they use the word list as a design wordle. Thanksgiving Day Doodle: Using colored pencils, they create a Thanksgiving day doodle picture.
Blessings for a Happy Thanksgiving…
