- Making the family connection: Discuss: “What do you know about writing a paragraph?”
- Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
- Today’s literary connection: subject. Guided enquiry: “How do you begin drafting a story from a writing prompt?”
- Next: Using the prompts below, invite the younger writers to choose a prompt for today’s “write-together” story. Once the story is completed invite them to draw a holiday border in the blank spaces. *Guide them not to color over their story.
- Invite your older learners to draft two of the prompts as pre-writes. Encourage them to choose one of their pre-writes and draft a three paragraph story (Beginning-Middle-End with illustrations).
