- Making the family connection: Discuss: “Sleigh Ride Adlib?”
- Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
- Today’s literary connection: Family Sleigh Ride. Guided enquiry: Ask a learner to be the scribe for today’s story. As their guide, read the adlib above, including the blanks (to be filled in later). Once the story has been re-written, invite someone to make a list of words as they are shared. Next: enjoy this family “story-telling” playtime with words. *Use the “round-robin” method (going around the table participation).
- Finally: Encourage everyone to re-draft the family’s Sleigh Ride into their journals. Encourage them to spend time illustrating a picture or border (show the artistic doodles on the slide). Your youngest can retell the story to a family scribe and then create their illustration).
