Inking Thoughts: Lil’ Fluff Rhyme

  • Putting Your Thoughts on Paper: Drafting a Lil’ Fluff rhyme
  • Gathering materials: family learning journals, pencils, colored pencils, crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill. Invite them to draft their version of Lil’ Fluff’s adventure (rhyming sentence; rhyming poem; rhyming paragraph).
  • Reading and Writing Connection: Using the image of Lil’ Fluff in the cup of hot chocolate, discuss a rhyming paragraph (what it sounds like, what words to use, what is Lil’ Fluff doing in the hot chocolate).
  • Drafting responses: Allow each family member to write their thoughts (10 min). Encourage the youngest members to draw their thoughts and assign someone to be their scribe.
  • Finally: Discuss: Let each family member share their “Lil’ Fluff ” creation. Remind them that respectful listeners make eye contact with the person sharing without interrupting.
  • Those that get done early… ask them to illustrate a Lil’ Fluff  beginning-middle-ending scene.
