Math B4 Bed: Snowman Place Value

What do you notice? Which place value lesson will you choose?
  • B4 Bed Thoughts: *Let everyone see the image. Discuss: “What do you notice?”
  • Next: Ask: What do you not know?”
  • Next: Discuss which patterns are visible in the slide above. Ask: “Which place value lesson will you choose to practice for today’s learning?”
  • Materials: pass out paper and pencils or have them use the back of their learning journals for math thoughts). *Remind them to use a new page, add today’s date, and a title for the learning image. *Encourage the younger family members to draw what they think the answer might be.
  • Show us…put your reasoning to the test! *Each of the three place value lessons have a grade level listed. Family learners that are in grade 3+ are encouraged to first do the practice lesson (far right). Next they can follow the layout from the slide for further lesson extensions (using their own numbers they can create 1-5 new problems for each of these: 3 digits, then 4 digits, and then 5 digits).
  • Finally: Ask each member to share what they believe an equation and solution might be. Review what an active listener looks like.
