Making the family connection: Discuss: “What do you notice about these acts of kindness?”
Materials : family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons
Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
Today’s literary connection: subject. Guided enquiry:“What does it mean to have a heart of kindness?” *Remind them that respectful listeners make eye contact with the person sharing without interrupting.
Next:Using the slide above, encourage them to make a 5 day “Heart of Kindness” plan in their journal. At the end of the 5 days, invite them to rate how well they accomplished their 5 day plan (1=not so well; 3=acts of kindness most days; 5=acts of kindness every day).
Finally: Invite them to write a paragraph about one of their acts of kindness and how they felt afterwards.
