Literary Foundations: Heart of Kindness

Bringing kindness to your daily encounters!
  • Making the family connection: Discuss: “What do you notice about these acts of kindness?”
  • Materials : family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons
  • Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
  • Today’s literary connection: subject. Guided enquiry: “What does it mean to have a heart of kindness?” *Remind them that respectful listeners make eye contact with the person sharing without interrupting.
  • Next: Using the slide above, encourage them to make a 5 day “Heart of Kindness” plan in their journal. At the end of the 5 days, invite them to rate how well they accomplished their 5 day plan (1=not so well; 3=acts of kindness most days; 5=acts of kindness every day).
  • Finally: Invite them to write a paragraph about one of their acts of kindness and how they felt afterwards.
