Reading Investigations: Sunflower Facts

What do you notice?
  • Today’s reading investigation: What will you learn about sunflowers?
  • Family Sharing: Invite everyone to share what they have learned from the slide above. Discuss which information they will record in their journals. *Guide them to write down interesting facts, new information they would like to remember, as well as what they would like to know more about.
  • Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
Taking Notes about sunflowers…
  • Guided enquiry: “When learning new information, drafting a bulleted entry provides a recording about what you discovered. Those discoveries are known as “Take-Aways.”
  • Next: Allow everyone 10-15 minutes to put their thoughts on paper about sunflowers.
  • Skill Discussion: “Let’s share what you’ve penned! Encourage everyone to share… including your youngest.
  • Discussion Wrap-Up: “What is one question about sunflowers you would like to know more about?”
