- Today’s reading investigation: Treasure Hunting… new discoveries.
- Family Sharing: What do you notice? *Invite everyone to share what they discover once they have read the slide above.
- Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
- Guided enquiry: “Documenting your discoveries is an important life skill. Every treasure hunter, explorer, archaeologist, and writer values their discovery journals. Long before camera’s were invented, many had to collect samples and sketch their discoveries in their field journals. Which image will you sketch in your journal?” Remind them to label the discovery including the age of the person who located the item.
- Next: Allow everyone 10-15 minutes to put their thoughts on paper about treasure discovery.

- Next Discovery: Invite all learners to choose their second treasure to sketch and label.

- Final Discovery: Invite all learners to sketch and label their Biblical artifact.
- Skill Discussion: “Let’s share what you’ve penned!” Encourage everyone to share… including your youngest. Spend a few moments sharing how you made choices when you were their age (include the titles or what your book was about, as well as why it remains a “Good Fit” favorite).
- Discussion Wrap-Up: “What was your favorite discovery?”; “What did you enjoy about today’s treasure hunting?”; “What other discoveries could you learn more about?”
