Reading Investigations: Dragon/Dinosaur Comparisons

What do you know? What can you learn?
  • Today’s reading investigation: Dragon Fantasy/Myths -or- Dinosaur Facts?
  • Family Sharing: *Invite everyone to share what they know and what might they learn.
  • Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
  • Guided enquiry: “Today you will fill in the Venn diagram, from the slide above, as your learning template.*Re-create the Venn circles for your youngest learners. Encourage them to sketch a dragon and then the dinosaur in one of the circles. Invite an older learner to draft their thoughts about how dragons and dinosaurs might be the same.
  • Next: Allow everyone 10-15 minutes to draft their thoughts on paper about dragons, dinosaurs, as well as the areas that they are the same.
  • Skill Discussion: “Let’s share what you’ve penned! Encourage everyone to share… including your youngest. Spend a few moments sharing what your Venn diagram would look like. Include which animal you read books about, as well as which animal continues to be your favorite.
