Math B4 Bed: Sorting… Ordering… Graphing

What do you notice?
  • B4 Bed Thoughts: *Let everyone see the image. Discuss: “What do you notice?”
  • Next: Ask: What do you not know?”
  • Next: Discuss which patterns are visible on the slide above. Ask: “What does the bottom 3 pictures tell you about the sorting, ordering, and graphing process?”
  • Materials: pass out paper and pencils or have them use the back of their learning journals for math thoughts). *Remind them to use a new page, add today’s date, and a title for the learning image. *Encourage the younger family members to draw what they think the answer might be.
  • Show us…put your reasoning to the test: *Invite your learners to re-create the 3 step process from the slide above. Next, ask them to draft their thoughts about what they know, as well as what they don’t know. Remind them that drafting a paragraph should have 4-5 sentences (Beginning-Middle-Conclusion). Penmanship is always a must when they are putting their thoughts on paper, check their spelling and punctuation.
  • Next: Ask each member to share what they believe an equation and solution might be. Review what an active listener looks like.
  • Finally: Invite your learners to solve the “gold fish” and the insect graphs. For those who enjoy being timed, remind them to draft & hide their answers until everyone is ready to reveal.
