
- Making the family connection: Discuss the slide above. What do they notice?
- Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
- Today’s literary connection: Sci-Fi inventions. Guided enquiry: “Today you will design and label your own Science-Fiction list of inventions for the future (3-5). *Many of our every day inventions were written about in Sci-Fi fiction stories and/or comics. “What would you create for your future self?” Consider what would make every day life easier, what might be beneficial for farmers, or for little ones to learn a subject quickly (reading/spelling/math/history). *Your youngest learners can draw the invention, then have them tell you what the invention is, how it helps people in the future, and what they would name it.
- Next: Allow everyone 10-15 minutes to put their thoughts on paper about futuristic inventions.
- Skill Discussion: “Let’s share what you’ve penned!” Encourage everyone to share… including your youngest.
