Making the family connection: Discuss: “What do you know about the solar system?”
Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.
Today’s literary connection: Solar System Research. Guided enquiry:“Today you will watch a video about the solar system. You will be taking bulleted notes as the video is playing, we will stop the video while you jot down what you learned.”The 1st video is great for K-2 learners. The 2nd video has more facts for learners in 3-8.
Next: “Now that you have notes about the solar system, you will begin looking for information about a planet of your choice.” Re-create the research template from the slide above.Follow the National Geographic Spacelink to discover information about the planet you have chosen to research.
