- B4 Bed Thoughts: *Let everyone see the image. Discuss: “What do you notice?”
- Next: Ask: “What do you not know?”
- Next: Discuss which patterns are visible in the slide above. Ask: “How many shapes do you notice?”
- Materials: pass out paper and pencils or have them use the back of their learning journals for math thoughts). *Remind them to use a new page, add today’s date, and a title for the learning image. *Encourage the younger family members to draw what they think the answer might be.
- Show us…put your reasoning to the test: Guide them as they estimate how many Lego pieces would be needed for each vehicle. In their journals, have them list the shapes/sizes/colors/amount of Lego pieces each vehicle would need. *Encourage the younger ones to “guesstimate” how many pieces and then draw the vehicles.
- Finally: Ask each member to share what they believe might be the total number of Lego shapes needed to recreate the Lego vehicles. Review what an active listener looks like.
- Lego extension: Encourage them to put their reasoning to the test. “Let’s build these vehicles!”
