Inking Thoughts: Mad Lib Word Play

Family writing… Autumn Adlib!
  • Putting Your Thoughts on Pape: A Squirrel’s Tale!
  • Gathering materials: family learning journals, pencils, colored pencils, crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s adlib “A Squirrel’s Tale“.
  • Reading and Writing Connection: Crazy adlibs are fun and encourages creative writing. Adlibs improve writing, word play, sentence formation and the parts of speech.
verbs… adverbs… nouns… adjectives
  • Drafting responses: Allow each family member to write their thoughts (10 min). Encourage the youngest members to draw their thoughts and assign someone to be their scribe.
  • Finally: Discuss: Let each family member share their “ A Squirrel’s Tale“ creation. Remind them that respectful listeners make eye contact with the person sharing without interrupting.
  • Those that get done early… ask them to illustrate a scene for this adlib tale.
