  • Making the family connection: Discuss: Christmas Comic,” as well as the word choice list.
  • Materials: family learning journals/paper, pencils, colored pencils, and/or crayons. Remind them to open their journals to the next available page and date it. Don’t forget to have them label the top of the page with today’s learning topic/skill.

  • Guided enquiry: 1. Help them divide their journal page into the 5 suggested blocks. Each block will have a two character discussion. *Remind them not to draw the conversation bubbles before they’ve written the conversations (the bubbles are drawn around the completed wording). 2. Draft the conversations. 3. Check the spelling and the punctuation. 4. Add the conversation bubbles (simple line boundaries pointing towards the character that is talking). 5. Create the scenes with doodles and color.
  • Next: Share their creations. Remind them to make eye contact while listening.
