Math B4 Bed: Christmas Math Fun!

Which math puzzles can you do?
  • B4 Bed Thoughts: *Let everyone see the image. Discuss: “What do you notice?”
  • Next: Ask: What do you not know?”
  • Materials: pass out paper and pencils or have them use the back of their learning journals for math thoughts). *Remind them to use a new page, add today’s date, and a title for the learning image. *Encourage the younger family members to draw what they think the answer might be.
  • Show us…put your reasoning to the test
  • Math Puzzle: Remind your learner that they need to fill in the boxes with the missing numbers (3-11). All 4 squares around Santa and the 3 elves = 25 (hint=Santa/Elves are the center of a 4-paned window).
  • Christmas Comparisons: In their journals, invite the youngest learners to: 1. Add the presents in the first box (write the total). 2. Add the trees in the second box (write the total). 3. Finally they decide if the presents total is greater/the same/or less than the trees (using the slide below). Complete the next three equations.
  • Finally: Ask each member to share what they believe an equation and solution might be. Review what an active listener looks like
